Mr. Amnah Brown "A.B." Pennington, Jr., 86, former longtime resident of the Cross Bridges Community, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Gallatin Health Care in Gallatin, TN. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Pennington, Rev. Mark Pennington and Rev. Austin Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He was employed by Monsanto Chemical Corp. for twenty-five years and farmed in the Cross Bridges Community for forty years. He had been a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for forty years where he served as a deacon and a trustee, and was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. Survivors include his wife of sixty three years, Sally Sowell Pennington, of Hendersonville; sons, Mike (Kristi) Pennington of Hendersonville, Mark (Carole) Pennington of Durham, North Carolina; sisters, Ann Bell of Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Gardner of Calhoun, Georgia, Martha Gidcomb of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Bethany Pennington (Eric) Rogers of Hendersonville, Blake (Claire) Pennington of Jackson, Daniel Pennington of Durham, North Carolina, Nick Pennington of Georgetown, Kentucky; step-grandchildren, Greg Freeland of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tara Freeland of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Lily Rogers, Levi Rogers, Lyla Rogers of Hendersonville; step great grandchildren, Breana Freeland, Caitlin Freeland of Albany, New York and Shainna Freeland of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Coaker, Elizabeth Shackleford and Felicia Pennington and three brothers, Ralph Pennington, Chester Pennington and Charles Pennington who was killed in Italy during WWII. Active pallbearers will be Blake Pennington, Daniel Pennington, Nick Pennington, Eric Rogers, Paul Holt and David Kincade. Honorary pallbearers include the Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church.
