View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Alfred Eugene Adkins, 91, professional engineer and registered land surveyor, and resident of Williamsport Pike, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at NHC Place Nursing Home at 211 Cool Springs Blvd., Franklin, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Oakes & Nichols with Reverend Frank Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, Tennessee. A native of Veto, Alabama Mr. Adkins was the son of the late Lawrence Eugene Adkins and Patty Amelia Whitfield Adkins. He was a 1937 graduate of Prospect High School in Prospect, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1942 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1945 he married Mary Kathryn Young Adkins who preceded him in death November 9, 2001. Mr. Adkins owned Adkins Engineering since 1954 and was a member of Tennessee Association of Professional Land Surveyors. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Elizabeth Adkins (James) Scott of Nashville; son, Stephen Kirby Adkins of Columbia; and sister, Miriam Lovenia Adkins Shoemaker of Nashville. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Philip Adkins on July 30, 1986.
