View Funeral Webcast Alice Theola Oakley Hood, 97, resident of Columbia, died Sunday, October 2, 2022. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born February 14, 1925 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to the late Ernest Arthur Oakley and the late Callie White Oakley. Theola worked for Southern Bell for twenty years before leaving her job in 1965 to raise her and Charlie’s son Ricky. Theola was a member of the Highland Church of Christ for 30 plus years. She loved working in the garden, keeping beautiful flowers, singing with her Church family. She was a wonderful cook and loved hosting friends and family to share in the bounty of her kitchen and home. Theola will be deeply missed by her family and many friends, but she is now at peace and free from pain and suffering. Survivors include her son, Ricky Wayne Hood and wife Sherri of Columbia; grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) Hood of Mt Juliet; and Dustin Hood of Nashville; great grandchildren, Kendria Hood, and Mallory Hood; special nephews, Jerry (Shirley) Oakley, and Jimmy (Fay) Oakley; nieces, Sandra (Dave) Stone, Pam (Gordon) Beason, Debbie Peeler, Paula Kovacs, and Patti Arnsdorf; and many other cherished nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charlie Alfred Hood; brothers, Willard Harvell Oakley, Wallace Baxter Oakley, and Finis C.L. Oakley; sisters, Capitola Reed, and Retha Fay Brown. Pallbearers will be Chris Hood, Dustin Hood, Brian Oakley, Tommy McEwen, Steve McEwen, and Jimmy McEwen. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Oakley, Jimmy Oakley, Dave Stone, Gordon Beason, Dan Arnsdorf, L.G. White, Bernis White, Danny Lunn, Byron White, and Timmy White. The family would like to express a special thank you to The Hospice nurses and aids of Compassus.
