Allene Wiley Alderson, 92, longtime resident of the Water Valley Community, died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Elsey and Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born March 19, 1922, the Maury County native was the daughter of the late Andrew Jefferson Wiley and Mary Virginia "Virgie" Scott Wiley. On May 3, 1941 she married Melvin Richard Alderson whom she loved dearly until his death on October 3, 2000 after almost sixty years marriage. Mrs. Alderson was a graduate of Santa Fe High School where she was a member of the band. A longtime member of Home Demonstration Club, she was known as a "great cook"; and she loved flowers and gardening. She was a life member and past President of VFW #4969 Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to his Ship Reunions and they also spent many hours fishing. Mrs. Alderson was a faithful member of Water Valley Church of Christ and attended services as long as she was able. Survivors include her daughter, Pamela (Johnny) Farmer of Williamsport; son, Melvin Wayne (Maria Anna) Alderson of Water Valley; grandsons, Michael (Leah) Alderson, Ricky (Cheryl) Alderson, Danny (Kathy) Alderson, Spence Alderson, John (Sara) Farmer, IV, Ben (Tiffany) Farmer; great grandchildren, Kayla Clower, Wyatt Alderson, Danielle Alderson, Allen Alderson, Emma Farmer; three great great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mae Daniels of Columbia. She was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Lentz and Viola Wiley; and brothers, Thomas Wiley, Carl Wiley, Burnice Wiley and Robert Wiley. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
