Alvin J "Buddy" Collins

Mr. Alvin Jasper "Buddy" Collins, 80, longtime resident of Scribners Mill Community, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral with Tony Lancaster officiating. Burial will follow in Sheboss Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Elkmont, Alabama he was the son of the late Henderson Collins and Nellie Street Collins. On April 21, 1956 he married Marie Kincade Collins who preceded him in death February 18, 1993. He was employed as a painter at Monsanto Chemical Company until they closed then worked from his farm as a mechanic and also painted cars. He loved NASCAR and building dune buggys. He was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ. Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Ann (Jerry) Harden, Vanessa Lynn Mealer both of Lewisburg, Terri (Randy) Young of Columbia; brother, William Ray (Marie) Collins of Shelbyville; sisters, Frances Chapman of Pulaski, Kathy (Cordell) Hobby of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, Tonya (Davin) Bell, Chris Harden, Daniel Harden, Jerry (Lonnie) Harden, Jr., Curtis Mealer; five great grandchildren; and longtime companion of twenty years, Charlotte Roe. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Barney Collins and Thomas Collins. Active pallbearers include Chris Harden, Daniel Harden, James Anderson, Phillip Hobby and Dwayne Hobby. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Griggs and Larry Osborne. The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Maury Regional Medical Center, Dr. Gibran B. Naddy and Dr. John Maloff.
