View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Arthur Thomas Shouse, Sr., 72, former owner of Shouse Building Center and resident of Lawrenceburg, died Monday, July 5, 2010 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. James Sewell and Rev. Ricky Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Gobble Cemetery in Lawrence County. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Thomas Cleveland Shouse and Ethel Hood Shouse. He was a 1955 graduate of Santa Fe High School. Mr. Shouse began his career at Scott Hardware and later worked for his father-in-law at Gobble Lumber Company. He was employed for several years at Cranford Lumber Company and returned to Gobble Lumber Company which he purchased from the Gobble family. In January 1976 he established Shouse Building Center. He was a former member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church and more recently a member of Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church in Lawrenceburg. Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Janet Gobble Shouse of Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Diane (Dale) Hildenbrandt of Columbia; two sons, Arthur Thomas "Tommy" Shouse, Jr. of Lawrenceburg; Michael (Lavenia) Shouse of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Jon Hildenbrandt, Keri (Shawn) Jackson, Joshua (Brittany) Shouse, Jennifer Shouse, Jacob Shouse, Desireé Shouse, Dwayne Carter, Jr., Dakota Shouse, Derek Shouse; one great granddaughter, Harmoni Grace Jackson; three sisters, Faye (Gerald) Adkison of Santa Fe; Clara Mae (Paul) Malugin of Columbia; Martha Nichols of Mt. Juliet; one brother, J. W. (Jewell) Shouse of Santa Fe; sister-in-law, Betty Shouse of Santa Fe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Shouse and Robert Gene "Bobby" Shouse; and two brothers-in-law, Steve Nichols and Eddie Bratton. Pallbearers will be Jon Hildenbrandt, Joshua Shouse, Jacob Shouse, Dwayne Carter, Jr., Dakota Shouse, Derek Shouse, Shawn Jackson and Nathan Adkison. Honorary pallbearers will be Linda & James Smith, employees & former employees of Shouse Building Center, and members of George Finley Sunday School Class at Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church.
