Barbara Jean Bowsher, 84, former longtime resident of Sunnyside, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Vann and Rev. Hubert Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Mount Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Mrs. Bowsher was a 1947 graduate of West High School in Columbus, Ohio. On November 24, 1950 she married Harlan D. Bowsher; and for many years they made their home in Louisville, Kentucky, moving to Columbia in 1971 with the startup of the Columbia GE Facility. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, gardening, sewing, needlepoint, and was an avid bridge player. She was a member of Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary and also a volunteer with American Red Cross. While living in Louisville, she was an active member of Beulah Presbyterian Church and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Catherine Bowsher of Memphis and Cheryl (Jim) Morrison of Columbia; one son, Don (Ann) Bowsher of Memphis; three grandchildren, Leslie (Darold) Hatcher, Joel Morrison, Matthew Bowsher; step granddaughter, Eileen Townsend; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Bowsher, Joel Morrison, Darold Hatcher, Mike Zimmerman, and Bill Gaskill. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
