View Funeral WebcastMrs. Bertha Childress Johnson, 92, retired employee of Dixie Manufacturing and resident of Highway 431, died Sunday August 9, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Bobby Sampson officiating. Burial will follow in Ring Cemetery in the Pottsville Community. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Old Lasea Church of Christ c/o Joe Farlow, 4235 Highway 431, Columbia, TN 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson "A. J." Childress and Lillie Maude Harris Childress. She was married March 12, 1935 to Oscar Alex Johnson who preceded her in death on June 2, 1969. Mrs. Johnson attended Maury County Schools and was a member of the Old Lasea Church of Christ. In previous years, Mrs. Johnson was a faithful attendee of the Maury County Seniors Citizens Center where she enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include a daughter, Edwina (Kenneth) Berlin of Columbia; a son, Kenneth Ray (Nadine) Johnson of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Kenny Berlin, Terry Berlin, Karen Beckham, Rhonda Dias, Mary Johnson, Kelli Miles, Tony Thomason, Tim Thomason and Keith Thomason; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Childress, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Johnson Thomason; a sister, Myrtle Blalock, and two brothers, Ed Childress and Granville Childress. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Blalock and men of Old Lasea Church of Christ.
