Bessie Lee Kerr Chunn

Mrs. Bessie Lee Kerr Chunn, 80, homemaker and long-time resident of Taylor Road, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Edward Clayton Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Shires Memorial Cemetery. The family will visit with friends after 5:00 p.m. Thursday and after 1:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th Street, Columbia 38401 or Tennessee Children's Home, 812 Branham Circle, Spring Hill 37174. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Marshall County native was the daughter of the late Robert L. Kerr and Lela Estella Ratcliff Kerr and a 1947 graduate of Spring Hill High School. Mrs. Chunn was a long-time member of Philippi Church of Christ and former member of the Knob Creek Home Demonstration Club. She loved reading, bird-watching, and shell and rock collecting. She was married May 24, 1947 to Chester Odell Chunn who preceded her in death January 16, 2003. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Michael Chunn; a sister, Mary Frances Kerr Harris and 3 brothers, J. W. Kerr, Bob Kerr, and Jessie Kerr. Survivors include her sons, Larry Thomas (Kathy) Chunn of Columbia and Chester Lee (Reba) Chunn of Santa Fe; a sister, Mayme Schaffer of Ana, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Scott Chunn, Lesa Chunn (Phil) Stanfill, Daryl Lee Chunn, and Christy Marie Chunn Tobish; sisters-in-law, Frances Chunn Andrews, Ruth Chunn (Richard) Brown, and Billie Chunn (Wendell) Cooper; a step-grandson, David Patrick (Melissa) Gipson; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Daryl Chunn, Scott Chunn, Bryce Tobish, Phil Stanfill, David Gipson, and Randy Carney. Honorary pallbearers include Joel London and NHC Columbia Staff.
