Bette Jean Davis Liggett, 71, former employee of Anderson Brothers & Foster and resident of South Laurel Circle, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Cemetery in Marshall County with James Dickey and Jimmy Atkisson officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105. A 1956 graduate of Columbia Central High School, she excelled in basketball and was elected "Queen of Sports" her senior year. Her interest in sports continued as a Columbia City League basketball coach and through her active involvement and support of the American Little League and Babe Ruth League when her sons played baseball. She was a member and active in the affairs of Berea Church of Christ for a number of years. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Mack Liggett, whom she married November 22, 1956; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Bill Love of Santa Fe; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Connie Liggett of Columbia, Mark and Sheila Liggett of Santa Fe, and Scott and Dawn Liggett of Columbia; grandchildren, Brittany Liggett, Lindsey Liggett, Bethany (Kip) Cogbill, Jade Liggett, Julianne Liggett, Jacob (Misty) Love, Joshua Love, Drew (Allison) Love, Hannah Love, Rachel Brown, Kristin Brown, Sam Liggett, and Emma Liggett; great-grandchildren, Maddie Carol, Bradley Love, Hailey Love; sisters, Pat Clifton, Ginger Remer, and Dorothy Stewart; sister-in-law, Judy Liggett. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Lampley and a brother, Lewis Gunnells. Active pallbearers are Bill Love, Mike Bryan, Jim Cook, Mike Cook, Dickie Cook, Brent Holt, and Tracy Landry. Honorary pallbearers include Reavis Harris, Willie James Morgan, Jimmy Bloss, Jack Kinney, Bill Hardison, and Jimmy Wilsford.
