Betty Hanvy

Betty Pilkinton Hanvy, 83, former longtime resident of Bestview Drive, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mark Proctor officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Robert Elmer Pilkinton and Lillie Mae Corcoran Pilkinton. On June 15, 1970 she married Jeff Hanvy who preceded her in death on November 7, 1983. Mrs. Hanvy was a 1949 graduate of Columbia Central High School and a graduate of Columbia Beauty School. She retired in June 1996 as secretary for PSC Fabricating and had previously worked at Tennessee Knitting Mills. She was a self-employed beautician and also employed as hairdresser at NHC Hillview for several years. She was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law, Trula Pilkinton Surles and Sarah Pilkinton, both of Columbia; Frances Pilkinton of Rogersville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elma & David Crockett Walls, Thelma & Weaver Coleman, and Mary Charles & Horace Henderson; and three brothers, Jesse Pilkinton, Robert Pilkinton, and George Pilkinton. Pallbearers will be John Henderson, Robin Henderson, Jeffrey Eddlemon, and Gary Smith.
