Betty Phipps Oldham,79, retired Columbia businesswoman and former resident of North Laurel Circle, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Life Care of Columbia. A private entombment was conducted at Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Rev. Melinda Britt officiating. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements. A native of Tracy City, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Henry Phipps and Lela Parson Phipps. She was married March 27, 1948 to Carl Wilson Oldham. She and Mr. Oldham were involved daily in the operation of their restaurant, Oldham's Fine Foods, a fixture in downtown Columbia for twenty-seven years. Mr. Oldham died February 17, 2001. Mrs. Oldham was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Carlda Oldham (Charles) Evans of Sewell, New Jersey; granddaughters, Christy Michelle (Mark) Yeaman of Arvada, Colorado and Tracy Renee Evans of Sewell, New Jersey; great-grandsons, Nathan D'Alfonso of Sewell, New Jersey and Nickolas Yeaman of Arvada, Colorado. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
