View Funeral WebcastBetty Lou Mathis Roland, 83, longtime resident of Riverside, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:00 P.M. at South Gate Church of Christ with John Thomas, Joe Macer, and Kevin White officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols and Sunday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the church. The Wayne County native was the daughter of the late Ervin Wiley Mathis and Willie Nutt Mathis. She was a 1949 graduate of Lewis County High School and was raised in Hohenwald, TN. After graduation she moved to Columbia to attend Columbia Business College. She was a former employee of Dixie Manufacturing Company until 1964 when she left her job to be a stay at home mom to her only child, Jadonna, who she cherished. She was blessed with two grandsons, Blake was born in 1985 and Mathis was born in 2009. They were the apples of her eye and she enjoyed spending time with them and attending their ball games. Betty loved get togethers and she was the life of the party. She loved people and looked forward to attending worship services on Sunday. She enjoyed canning, gardening, and putting up corn with her daughter and spending time with her family. On January 6, 2000 she was baptized into Christ at the age of 67. She was a faithful member of the South Gate Church of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Jadonna (Tommy, Jr.) Hight of Columbia; grandchildren, Blake (Carrie) Hight and Mathis Hight, both of Columbia; sister, Sue (Gerald) White of Long Beach, Mississippi; brother, Dwayne (Patricia) Mathis of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; special sister-in-law, Shirley Ludwig of Columbia; special niece, Karla Roland; many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews; and special friends, Betty Haywood Kelley, Talmas Gray, Jo Ann Carroll, Helen Jean McDonald, Carol Gagneur, Ken Monroe, and Lorene Hickman.She was preceded in death by Three sisters, Ruby Hendrix, Tommye Hendrix, Virgina Robinson and a brother, Ervin Mathis Jr.. Active pallbearers will be Terry Mathis, Ron Mathis, Richard White, John Robinson Jr., Donnie Davis, Melvin Hunt, David Gray and Tommy Hemphill. Honorary pallbearers will include members of the 1949 Class of Lewis County High School, members, elders and deacons of South Gate Church of Christ. The family suggests memorials to South Gate Church of Christ Building Fund, 2700 Pulaski Highway, Columbia, TN 38401, Columbia Academy, 1101 West Seventh Street, Columbia, TN 38401, or American Heart Association, P.
