Billy J. Parchman, Major (Ret.) Tennessee Army National Guard, 75, resident of Porter Circle, passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Williamson Medical Center. A memorial service for Billy will be conducted at 12 noon on Friday at Riverside United Methodist Church. The family will visit with friends from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Billy was the son of the late David S. Parchman, Sr. and Maria Lieser Parchman-Massey. He was a 1953 graduate of Central High School, attended the University of Tennessee and graduated from Army Command & Staff College. He wasa member of the Tennessee Army National Guard for thirty years, joining in 1953. He was commissioned in 1960 and served as Operations and Training Officer for the 473rd Support Battalion until his retirement in 1983. Billy was a member of the Dimple of the Universe Camping Club and a former member of Maury County Community Band. He was a charter member of Riverside United Methodist Church, serving as Captain of the Loveboat, the Church's Senior group, and was a member of Jim Hewgley Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Ann Allen Parchman of Columbia; four children, William (Sheila Reece) Parchman of Columbia, Therese (Greg) Howell of Brentwood, John Allen (Ellie) Parchman of Nashville, Mary Katharine (Stephen) Burt of Thompson's Station; six grandchildren, William Wesley (Michelle) Parchman of Birmingham, Alabama, Kristin Parchman of Biloxi, Mississippi, Whitney Howell of Brooklyn, New York, Courtney Howell (Jamie) Bach of Franklin, John Allen Parchman, Jr. of Nashville, Dorothy Ann Burt of Thompson's Station; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father, J.O. Massey and by a brother, David S. Parchman, Jr.
