She was born in Giles County on September 5, 1915 to Burl Shrader and Clemma Baker Shrader. She spent most of her life in Giles County where she grew up in the community of Rich and later spent her adult years in the Lynnville Community. Her father died when she was six years of age leaving behind her mother and seven children with age ranges from fourteen to two years of age. She walked to a one room school at Rich through the sixth grade and finished the seventh and eighth grades at Campbellsville. After not having enough money to buy books at the beginning of her ninth grade she caught the milk truck and went to Columbia and worked in a hosiery mill and stayed with a family friend. She married Brown Bonds whom she had known since childhood. They went to Alabama and secretly eloped on July 4, 1934. They had three children who survive. We are Wade Bonds of Nashville, Carolyn (Bobby) Bonds Head of Goodlettsville and Malcolm Bonds of Nashville. As well as a homemaker, she was also very active in the duties of the family farm while her children were growing up. She helped with the daily milking, gardening and the yearly preparation of getting tobacco in the ground, and in the fall with getting it ready for sale. After her children were of an age to care for themselves and each other, she worked in garment factories. Her last job was at Edric Manufacturing where she retired after eighteen years in 1978. After her retirement, she and our father had many more good years together as they were both active in managing the cattle on the farm until his death on February 9, 1994. She also enjoyed her riding lawnmower until her health finally prevented her use of it.She was a very social person and enjoyed going to The Ladies Home Demonstration Club meetings and outings, the Senior Citizens Club functions and all the activities of the Lynnville United Methodist Church where she was a member since 1942. In her earlier days she was especially known for her caramel pies at the many pot luck dinners at the church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and we remember many weekend gatherings when she would cook a huge Sunday dinner when we came down from Nashville. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting. She made quilts for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never missed watching "Wheel of Fortune" and sadly we will think of her when we watch it. She also enjoyed watching Tennessee Girls basketball games. In addition to her three children she is survived by a grandson, Todd (Becky) Head, and great grandson, Tyler Head all of Goodlettsville; great granddaughter, Kristen Head (Ian) Bryant and great great granddaughter, Kaelyn, all of Mt. Juliet. She is also survived by a very caring and attentive friend, Judy Neale. As well as her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by all of her brothers, Frank Shrader, James Shrader, Brown Shrader, Burns Shrader and her sisters, Sadie Shrader Owens and Ava Shrader Wilson, all of her thirteen sisters-in-law, and all twelve of her brothers-in-law. She was also preceded by a special niece, Linda Faye Bonds Horne.Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Dr. George McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in Lynnwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 5 - 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lynnville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Lynnville, TN 38472. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Life Care Center of Columbia.
