Calvin Herbert Burch, beloved father and Granddaddy, went home to His Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 81 on November 13, 2025, in Columbia, TN. He was born January 6, 1944 in Helena, Arkansas, and was a graduate of Western High in Macomb, Illinois. Calvin proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He spent most of his life in Memphis, Tennessee, later settling on a peaceful farm in Maury County, a place he dearly loved.
Calvin was the devoted husband of 56 years to Linda Kinney Burch, who preceded him in death on January 8, 2025. He could always be found working outdoors, tending to his chickens, and building the projects he dreamed up, including his own house and barn. In earlier years, he enjoyed flying his airplane. He would travel frequently, always looking forward to his next trip with family and friends. He also had a passion for teaching Bible studies and spent countless hours studying Scripture.
Calvin is survived by his daughter, Tracy Voyles (Nathan) and son, Kevin Burch (Charlee); his grandchildren, Ethan Voyles (fiancée Eden Black), Claire Voyles, Luke Voyles, and Avery Voyles; and his brother, Roy Edward Burch. Besides his wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by his parents, William Homer Burch and Vernice Brown Burch; his brothers, Howard, Roland, and Carl Burch; and his sister, Mary Ethel Burch Kinney.
Calvin loved god deeply and cherished his family. He lived his life as a strong, steady, and dependable presence in their lives. He was the happiest when the house was full, spending many hours talking and laughing at the dinner table. Saturday mornings often meant “Burch Breakfast,” cooked for anyone who walked through the door, inevitably ending with the coffee on the back porch. He adored his grandchildren, faithfully attending every game, play, or event.
Calvin never met a stranger and quietly served others. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but we rest in the blessed assurance that he is rejoicing in heaven, reunited with Linda and surrounded by the glory he longed for.
A memorial service for his life will be conducted on November 22 at 11 am at Central Christian Church, 701 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, with Tracy Cameron officiating. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
