Mary Carolyn Reynolds Fisher, born on Christmas Day 1929, passed away on September 1, 2025. She was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Hughey Reynolds and Mariruth Aldridge Reynolds of Columbia, TN. Carolyn was a beloved and understated servant-leader in Columbia.

Born in Columbia, TN, Carolyn graduated from Columbia Central High School and Ward-Belmont Preparatory School for Girls in Nashville. She and John Thomas “Buddy” Fisher, Jr. were married for 73 years until Buddy passed away in 2023. Childhood sweethearts, they had been devoted to each other since she was 15 and Buddy was 17. They met in Carolyn’s dad’s soda shop, located in Reynolds Pharmacy.

Carolyn never missed a ballgame, tennis match, or important event that involved her sons, John and Jeff. She realized she had cooked over 75,000 meals for her family, a testament to her stellar culinary skills. Celebrating her birthday on Christmas Day was a special time for those she served selflessly for so long. Her ever-cheerful spirit, optimism, and love for her family, friends, and community were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Known as “Miss-Once-Upon-A-Time,” Carolyn was an avid reader, storyteller, and teacher. She gave numerous hours as a volunteer leader for the Maury County Public Library, serving as Chair of the Library Board and a founder of the 1974 Book Mart book sale project, the proceeds of which continue to raise generous funds for the library. She was honored with the Lucille Queener Courtney Community Service Award. A longtime member and past President of the 1902 Students’ Club, Carolyn was a lifelong learner.

She was President of the James K. Polk Memorial Association Board, Co-Chairman of the Columbia YWCA Advisory Board, and Citizens Advisory Council for the Columbia Post Office.

She was dedicated to First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and, in 1994, as a Commissioner to the Presbyterian General Assembly. In 2002, the church’s new pipe organ was dedicated to Carolyn by her “Buddy” in recognition of her tireless efforts.

Carolyn, nicknamed “Cacky” by her granddaughter Melissa, was a creative and loving grandmother who shared family stories and created beautiful memories. She is survived by her sons, John Thomas Fisher, III (Susie), and Jeffrey Reynolds Fisher (Irwin); granddaughters, Melissa Floyd (Wess), Francie Corcoran (Tom), and Carolyn Eisemann (Ben); and five great-grandchildren, Gus, Logan and Lily Floyd, Mary Irwin “Wynne” Corcoran, and Edward “Eddie” Deane Eisemann.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will take place before the service at 3:00 P.M., with doors opening for visitation at 1:45 PM. Carolyn will be buried at Polk Memorial Gardens following the service. Donations in celebration of her life can be made to the Maury County Library, First Presbyterian Church, or a charitable organization that holds special meaning for you.
