View Funeral Webcast Carolyn Gail Johnson Hemphill, 71, retired from Maury Regional Hospital and resident of Reece's Church Road, died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Mt. Pleasant, she was the daughter of the late Gladys McAnally Johnson and Claude Johnson. She was a 1955 graduate of Hay Long High School and attended Columbia State Community College. Mrs. Hemphill was secretary for several departments at Maury Regional Hospital for 21 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ but in recent years attended Parkway Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Beverly H. (Dale) Norman of Columbia and Judy (Chris)Fite of Mt. Juliet; son, Tommy (Jacque) Hemphill of Columbia; sisters, Doris Johnson (Allen) Savage of Columbia, Bobbie Johnson Jones of Mt. Pleasant, Susan Johnson Coffman of Mt. Pleasant, and Marshal Johnson Neilson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Jerry Dale Norman, Joey Norman, Brenda (Brandon) Boles, Lindsey (Josh) Howell, Brent Fite, and Christi Fite; great-grandchildren, Will, Briley, Chelsey, Chase, Collyn, and Caleigh; her beloved pet, "Taco"; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by great-grandchildren, Claira Jewel Norman, Catherine Gail Norman, and Christian Neal Norman. Active pallbearers are Jerry Norman, Joey Norman, Brent Fite, Brandon Boles, Adam Coffman, and Josh Howell. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. John Simmons, Tyler Coffman, and Dr. Rodney Poling.
