Catherine Campbell York

Mary Catherine Campbell York, 93, resident of The Bridge at Life Care Center and former longtime resident of Sewanee Circle, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. William L. Rolman officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church, c/o Rev. William L. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Spring Hill native was the daughter of the late James Allen Campbell and Eleanor "Nell" Sheegog Roberts Campbell. She was a 1936 graduate of Spring Hill High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1941. While at UT, she was a member of the "Volettes," pep squad for the university football team. After graduation, she taught High School Home Economics in Mt. Pleasant, and served as County Extension Agent in Grundy County and Cheatham County. Upon her return to Maury County, she taught Home Economics at Spring Hill High School prior to her marriage. On August 27, 1960 she married Milburn Sanford York, well-known farmer in the Spring Hill community for many years, who preceded her in death on July 4, 2007. Mrs. York greatly enjoyed the outdoors, watching birds, and flower and vegetable gardening. She was also an avid bridge player for many years. A very active Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer for twenty-three years, she logged 4,380 hours of service and received Super Star status in August 2011. Mrs. York was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church in Spring Hill since childhood and served as Church Treasurer for many years. In recent years, she was a member of Pleasant Mount Cumberland Presbyterian Church and enjoyed all church activities. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Nell (Butch) Veazey of Hendersonville; granddaughter, Anna Catherine Veazey of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Dot Campbell Elrod of Chattanooga; niece, Janet Campbell; nephews, Tim (Susan) Campbell and Bruce (Joan) Campbell; and six great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, A. Argyle Campbell. Active pallbearers are Tim Campbell, Bruce Campbell, Dennis Stephen, Collin Campbell, Jason Campbell, and Stephen Fitts. Honorary pallbearers include members of Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Bill Fitts, Robert Fitts, Millard "Bud" Mitchum, Jr., Elise and Glynn Anderson, Pam and Jimmy Rochelle, Fay and Charles Martindale, and Earline Rolman.
