View Funeral Webcast Mr. Charles Ray Barnes, 90, resident of Santa Fe Pike, died Monday, September 8, 2014 at NHC HIllview. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Billy Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Faith Freewill Baptist Church, 1611 Nashville Highway, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Hopkins County, Kentucky native was the son of the late Clarence Edward Barnes and Lizzie Pearl Fox Barnes. On November 12, 1945 he married Lollie Lea Waddey Barnes who preceded him in death April 28, 2014. Mr. Barnes served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and was part of the 27th Naval Construction Battalion in the South Pacific. He was a self-employed carpenter who worked at the Village in Neapolis and built the Gravity Shack. Mr. Barnes was a charter member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his sons, Billy Ray (Frances) Barnes of Columbia, Thomas Neal (Jana) Barnes of Versailles, Kentucky; grandchildren, Danny (Kim) Barnes of Santa Fe, Terry (Gail) Barnes of Columbia, Laura (Detrea DeHerrera) Barnes of Sterling, Virginia, Charles (Michelle) Barnes of Frankfort, Kentucky, Cynthia (Chris) Perkins of Beaumont, Texas; brother, Bobby (Sylvia) Barnes of Somerville, Alabama; sisters, Margaret Brady of Columbia, Dot (Vance) Potts of Hohenwald, Hazel Adair, Mt. Pleasant; sisters-in-law, Minnie Barnes and Sarah Waddey both of Columbia; five great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. In addition to his wife of sixty-eight years, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, James E. Barnes and Eugene Barnes. Pallbearers will be Johnny Moss, J.W. Neal, Doris Watson, Terry Locke, Artie Haskins and Mike Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
