View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Charles Ray Brewer, 84, retired owner of Brewer Construction Company and Columbia Plastics, resident of West Sixth Street, and former long-time resident of Jefferson Drive, died Sunday, June 17, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Church of Christ with David Morris and Barry Throneberry officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to Highland Church of Christ Building Fund, 497 James M. Born in Lubbock, Texas, he was the son of the late Calvin William Brewer and Dena Pugh Brewer. In the early 1960s, Mr. Brewer and his brother, Austin developed and sub-divided Chantay Acres. They established Brewer Construction Company and later Columbia Plastics in 1972 and were the first to manufacture PVC pipe in the area. He loved his church and was a long-time, faithful member of Highland Church of Christ. He married Thelma Juanita Roberts Brewer on January 16, 1944. Their sixty-six year marriage ended with her death July 21, 2010. A loving father and grandfather, he was devoted to his family and beloved and respected by his family, neighbors, friends, and business associates. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Larry Turner of Columbia; grandsons, Scott (Gina) Turner of Columbia and Brent (Katie) Turner of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Trevor (Amber) Turner, Morgan Turner, Owen Turner of Murfreesboro and Malli Shea Turner of Columbia; sisters, Faye McFarland (Don) Comp of Madison, Maye Morrow Johnston of Columbia, and Laura White Park of Columbia; and a brother, Austin Brewer of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Flora Burns Stone, Juanita Voss, and Virginia Dunn. The family expresses special thanks to Paula Tennant for her kindness and compassionate care during his illness. Active pallbearers are Larry Turner, Scott Turner, Brent Turner, Trevor Turner, Morgan Turner, and Owen Turner. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of Highland Church of Christ, Betty Modrall, Wilma Damron, Alex Sowell, Dr. Shawn Reed, Shannon Newbill, Bob Ramsey, and Jack Cunningham.
