View Video TributeMr. Charles Roy Dye, Sr., 91, retired from Stauffer Chemical Company and resident of the Hampshire Community, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Mark Proctor, Rev. Bob Adair and Rev. Wilson Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4 - 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401 or Cedar Hill Cemetery, c/o Doug Garner, 3524 Hampshire Pike, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Cullman, Alabama he was the son of the late Walter Dye and Julia Boone Dye. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was attached to the 20th Ferring Division Air Transport Command and later the Infantry. On June 28, 1952 he married Doris Crowder Dye who survives. Mr. Dye was employed by Stauffer Chemical Co. for forty one and a half years in various positions including Research Engineer Assistant and Production Supervisor over kiln and phosphorous. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for nearly sixty-two years and was recently recognized as Deacon Emeritus for serving over fifty years in Deacon Ministry. He held many leadership positions at Highland Park Baptist Church and during the past several years enjoyed being in the church drama serving as shepherd and disciple. He loved his farm near Hampshire and during his retirement years he enjoyed raising cattle and hay on the farm. In addition to his wife survivors include his daughter, Debra Kay Dye (Tim) Flowers of Hampshire; son, Charles Roy Dye, Jr. of Williamsport; granddaughter, Mary Katherine "Katie" Flowers of Hampshire, nephew, Jimmy (Linda) Fitzgerald of the Sawdust Community; niece, Barbara Fitzgerald Rittenbery of the Sawdust Community; and sister-in-law, Minnie Lee Fowler Dye of Columbia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Audalene Dye Fitzgerald and two brothers, Rayford Dye and Felton Dye. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Fitzgerald, Tim Flowers, Jerry Fly, Ray Holden, Sam Beddingfield, Donald Craft and Doug Grose. Honorary pallbearers include Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church and the adult men's Sunday School Class, Vernon Brooks, Doug Church, Kenneth Jenkins, J.D. Brooks, Frank and Catherine McBride, Curtis Riley, Bob Hull, Richard Brown, R.E. Crowder, Doug Garner, Herman and Geneva Lewis, John and Helen Lynn, Jimmie Rowland, Bobby Dye, retired employees of Stauffer Chemical Company and friends and neighbors of the Hampshire Community. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Hrishi Kanth; employees of ICU and 3rd Floor of Maury Regional Hospital; and caregiver, Olivia Whiteside.
