View Video TributeView Funeral WebcastCharles Cole Eaton, 84, retired employee of Victory Van Lines and resident of Fleming Street, died Friday, May 2, 2014 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Larry Benderman and Rev. Tommy Vann officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born February 3, 1930 in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Charlie Eaton and Ruth Cole Eaton Hickman. He was married to Elizabeth Potts Bowling Eaton who preceded him in death on March 4, 2008. Mr. Eaton was a graduate of Culleoka High School and retired as truck driver after thirty-two years employment at Victory Van Lines. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Survivors include one niece, Linda Whittaker of Commerce, Georgia; great niece, Terri Crowder; great nephew, Ray Crowder; great great nephews, Joshua Crowder and Seth Crowder; step grandchildren, Jackie McClain, Teresa Holtsford, and Cole Bowling; several step great grandchildren; and special friends, Walter Mears and Kevin Benderman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Luster; step-son, Jerry Bowling; step-daughter, Betti Bowling; step-granddaughter, Jolene Lewis. Active pallbearers will be Kevin Benderman, David Barker, Walter Mears, Gary Ledbetter, Dallas Potts, Bob Belt, Royce Russell, Harlan Potts, Bill "Nookie" Potts, Floyd Morton, and J. W. Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Victory Van Lines.
