Charles Cuthbert Hinson

Mr. Charles Cuthert Hinson, 84, retired sales representative for Southern Railroad, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Life Care of Columbia. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Swiss Cemetery in Hohenwald with Pastor Scott Aleridge officiating. Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19 will provide military honors at graveside. The family will visit with friends Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Samuel H. Hinson and Lena Mai Hull Hinson. He was educated in Lewis County schools and was a graduate of Bolen's Business College. During World War II, he served in the in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS LST 508. Mr. Hinson was very active in the affairs of First United Methodist Church for a number of years, the Men's Club of the Church, and Golden K Kiwanis Club of Columbia. An avid historian and photographer, he served on the Board of Directors of Maury County Historical Society and was a member of Lewis County Historical Society. He was co-Editor of MAURY COUNTY, TENNESSEE HISTORY & FAMILIES and was instrumental in the compilation of Mildred Hartsfield's HISTORIC MAURY COUNTY PLACES & PEOPLE. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nettie Jo Anderson Hinson of Columbia; sister, Joanne (Pruitt) Hyatt of Hohenwald; nieces, Ann (Bobby) Russell of Spring Hill, Kay (James) Lindsey of Mt. Pleasant, Linda (Roy) Fox of Bending Chesnut, Willadene (Garland) Petway of Franklin, Debbie (Jim) Qualls of Maryland, Pat (Cam) Campbell of Murfreesboro; nephews, Kenny (Donna) Anderson of Nashville and Steve (Ana) Hyatt of Florida; sister-in-law, Jane A. Baker of Columbia; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
