Charles Robert Luttrell

Charles Robert Luttrell, 77, well-known resident of Columbia, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with James Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will begin visitation Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home concluding with Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late James Luttrell, Jr. and Nannie Mae Johnson Luttrell. He was a member of the Central High School Class of 1953. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Hollister during the Korean War. Following military service, Mr. Luttrell returned to Columbia and served as a Firefighter and Assistant Chief of the Columbia Fire Department during the 1950s and early 1960s and in the late 1960s and 1970s was a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service. Later, he worked several years for Industrial Contractors and was retired from Autozone of Columbia. He was a member and former deacon of Highland Park Baptist Church. Additionally, he was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19; former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 40 & 8; member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, and having gone through Commandery, was a Past Master and York Rite Mason. He was married September 28, 1956 to the former Martha Ann Wiley who preceded him in death January 9, 2003. Survivors include daughters, Janet (James) Hanvy of Spring Hill and Alicia Flores of Goodlettsville; son, Keith Luttrell of Columbia; grandchildren, Jennifer Bourland of Lewisburg and Luis Flores of Goodlettsville; great-grandchildren, Elaina McMinnis, Savannah Bourland, and Ramsey Bourland; great-great-grandchild, Malachi McMinnis; niece, Sharon Mitchell; nephews, Jeff Benefield, Steve Benefield, Ronnie Alexander, and Donnie Alexander; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Billy Benefield of Columbia. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Mae Luttrell Alexander and nephew, Wendell Phillip Bullion. Members of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31 will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Sarah and Rufus Haygood, Jess Perry, Deacons of Highland Park Baptist Church, members of Columbia Masonic Lodge #31, Dr. John Maloof; and staff of NHC Hillview.
