View Funeral Webcast Charles Delos McNichols. 79, CPA and counselor for the Tennessee Department of Human Services for 20 years and resident of Greely Drive, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Pastor Randy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Hamilton County native was the son of the late Richard Wallace McNichols and Gladys Elaine Stephens McNichols. He attended Hamilton County schools and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a 3rd Class Hospital Corpsman.As a young man, he was active in Boys Scouts of America. He attained Eagle Scout level and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. His interest in scouting continued through the years and he was instrumental in Boy Scout Troop 101 planting all the pine trees at Trinity Lutheran Church. Mr. McNichols taught hunter safety courses for several years and had donated over seven gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He was a member and active in the activities of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was married August 29, 1957 to Susan Theresa Curtis, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Susan Stephanie (David) Hancock of Columbia; a son, Charles David (Sabrina) McNichols of Lyles; a sister, Charlotte Veale of St. Claire Shores, Michigan; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Rodger Peterson, Rick Mullen, Dick Gilbert, John Clear, Darry Brown, John Kirk, Paul Manke, and Hal Shiarla.
