Charles Austin Turner

View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mr. Charles Austin Turner, 78, retired employee of Monsanto Company and resident of Creek Trail, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Signature Health Care. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Maury County native was the son of the late Jim Turner and Anna Austin Turner and the last surviving of their ten children. He was married to Mary Blanch Kelley Turner who preceded him in death on April 26, 1995. Mr. Turner was a graduate of Maury County schools and served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 - 1955. He was welding supervisor in the maintenance department at Monsanto for over thirty years. A talented musician and fiddle craftsman, Mr. Turner enjoyed music and played his fiddle and guitar at numerous bluegrass events, including several nursing facilities. An avid gardener, he enjoyed growing several species of cactus. Survivors include a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" (Robert) Owen of Nolensville; three great-grandchildren, Lauren Downs, Taylor Owen and Hannah Owen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Glenda Fay Chadwell White; three sisters, Ruby Sharp, Grace Wantland, Frances Puckett; and six brothers, Marshall Turner, Paul Turner, Clarence Turner, Marvin Turner, Howard Turner and Cecil Turner. Pallbearers will be Tim Bortz, Mark Delk, Larry Turner, Ronnie Turner and Taylor Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Monsanto Retirees.
