Christine Mae Huffman Geving, 86, retired registered nurse and resident of the Gardens at Poplar Estates, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at NHC Hillview. Family and friends will gather Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols concluding with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Scott Aleridge officiating. Interment will be Saturday in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in Cass County, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late J. C. Huffman and Dorothy Schaefer Huffman. She was a graduate of the University of Denver and Nursing School. During her career she worked in various fields of nursing. She met her husband, Donald L. Geving, while on duty in Alaska after the Korean War and they married December 4, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1992. She also worked for a number of years as a nurse for Blue Cross-Blue Shield. Since making her home in Columbia, Mrs. Geving was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her sons, Major Donald L. (Kay) Geving, II of Spring Hill and Christopher O. (Holly) Geving of Lynchburg; a brother, Kenneth L. Huffman of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Dora Geving, Eric Geving, and Christopher Geving; a nephew, Kenneth Huffman of Davis, California. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Kay Williams in 1980. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
