Mrs. Christine Harris Howell, 96, former long time resident of Circle Drive, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at McCain's Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David McGregor officiating. Burial will follow in McCain's Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the church. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Earl B. Harris and Brownie Burkett Harris. She was a 1935 graduate of Central High School. On April 17, 1937 she married Murry Howell who preceded her in death September 12, 1986. Mrs. Howell loved to read and sew and was a wonderful cook. She was a longtime member of McCain's Cumberland Presbyterian Church and former Sunday School teacher. Survivors include her sons, David M. (Karen) Howell of Lima, Ohio, James Mark (Barbara) Howell of Mt. Juliet, Richard Brown (Judy) Howell of Columbia, Steve H. (Jane) Howell of Culleoka; sister, Earlene Grimmett of Sheffield, Alabama; sister-in-law, Frankie Harris of Columbia; grandchildren, Christine Warner, Donna Frye, David Murry Howell, Jr., Michelle Watson, Jeffery Mark Howell, Teena McDaniel, Elizabeth Wood, Katie Howell; 13 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harley B. Harris and Mack Harris. Family members will be active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the staff at Life Care Alzheimers Unit and the elders of McCain's Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
