Clara Mai Shouse Bratton Malugin, 90, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Paul Redding and Danny Lunn officiating. Burial will follow in Goshen Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Born July 17, 1935, in Maury County, Clara was the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland Shouse and the late Ethel Mae Hood Shouse. She was first married to Claud Edward "Eddie" Bratton, who preceded her in death. On August 31, 1968, she married Paul Bolton Malugin, and they shared fifty wonderful years of marriage until his passing on September 23, 2018. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting all forty-eight continental United States, as well as Canada and Mexico, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Clara was an amazing and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was an accomplished seamstress who lovingly made beautiful quilts and embroidery pieces that will be treasured for generations. An exceptional cook, Clara was especially known for her delicious chocolate pies and tater biscuits, which became family favorites. She also loved collecting antiques and enjoyed many years of treasure hunting with Paul. Above all, Clara was a faithful Christian and a longtime active member of Water Valley Church of Christ, where she worshiped faithfully and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.
She is survived by her children, Robert Anthony "Tony" Bratton, Randall Edward "Randy" Bratton (Connie) Bethany Faye Malugin-Connelly, and Tina Malugin; grandchildren, Jacqualine Suzanne "Suzi" Bratton, Kristen Nelson Benderman (Rodney), Brandy Nelson, Ashley Bratton Sisk (Adam), Adam Bratton (Elizabeth), Chandler Paul Connelly, Trenton James Connelly, and Samantha Renee Connelly; great-grandchildren, Sydney Bratton, Molly Bratton, Kaylee Nichols, Chaslyn Stewart, Brandon Sisk, Adasyn Bratton, and Olivia Mai Cassidy; sister, Alice Faye Shouse Adkison (Gerald); sisters-in-law, Betty Shouse, and Helen Malugin; brother-in-law, Thomas Malugin (Helen); and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy Lynn Bratton Nelson (Ricky); grandson, Robert Anthony "Bobby" Bratton II; great-granddaughter, Rylee Elizabeth Bratton; sister, Martha Blanche “Sis” Shouse Nichols (Steve); brothers, J. W. Shouse (Jewell), Arthur Shouse (Janet), Robert Gene "Bobby" Shouse, and Ronnie Lee Shouse; brothers-in-law, James Malugin (Lib), Leonard Malugin (Mildred), Boyd Malugin, and Leslie Malugin; and sisters-in-law, Cora Lee Beard, Clara Mae Malugin Slaughter, Viola Malugin McCord (Jr.), and Willine Malugin Roberts (Wesley).
Pallbearers will be Adam Bratton, Adam Sisk, Chandler Connelly, Trenton Connelly, Brandon Sisk, Tory Nichols, Terry Adkison, and Nathan Adkison. Honorary pallbearers will include the men of Water Valley Church of Christ and the friends of Carters Creek Station Antiques.
