Clyde Kindel "Kenny" Thompson, Jr., 61, farmer and life-long resident of the Zion Community, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. The family suggests memorials to Zion Presbyterian Church, 2322 Zion Road, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born and reared in Maury County, he was the son of the late Clyde Kindel Thompson, Sr. and Olivia Cochran Thompson. He attended Columbia Military Academy and Columbia Central High School. He was a former member of Zion Presbyterian Church. Since childhood, he was engaged in a farming operation with his father in the Zion Community. He was selected as Maury County's "Young Farmer of the Year" in 1973. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an experienced hunter and fisherman. After becoming disabled due to rheumatoid arthritis, he focused his interests on other areas of the outdoors and became an avid vegetable and flower gardener. Survivors include a daughter, Kaye Thompson (Mark) Ingrum of Mt. Pleasant; a grandson, Justin McKennon of Mt. Pleasant; a granddaughter, Tabitha Faye Ingrum of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Gloria Jean (Wallace) Rich of Columbia; nephews, Albert Rich and Chad (Amy) Rich of Columbia. Active pallbearers are Danny Dodson, David Kincaid, Albert Rich, Justin McKennon, J. H. Dodson, and Wayne Thompson. Farmers of the Zion Community will serve as honorary pallbearers.
