Mr. Crawford L. Crabtree, 92, resident of Pleasant Drive, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Life Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Phelps Cemetery in Giles County with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The Lincoln County native was the son of the late Garland L. Crabtree and Robbie Lou Touchstone Crabtree. He served in the United States Army, Company I, 179th Infantry, 45th Division during World War II. He was a retired Supervisor with Bargain Town U.S.A. and also retired as a Greeter for Wal-Mart. He was a member of American Legion Post 11 in Florence, Alabama. Mr. Crabtree was a very avid family genealogist. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Phelps Higgins Crabtree of Columbia; two step-sons, Joseph Wayne (Ann) Higgins of Florence, Alabama and David Ray (Pam) Higgins of Burns; two grandsons, Chris Crabtree of Flintville, Greg Crabtree of Huntsville, Alabama; sister, Elaine Dunivan of Petersburg; brother, Wayne Crabtree of Lewisburg; two sisters-in-law, Sara Crabtree of Cornersville, Nannie Lou Crabtree of Fayetteville; three great-granddaughters; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Gerald Crabtree on December 17, 2003, two brothers, Garland L. Crabtree, Jr., Robert Crabtree, a sister, Macie McKinney, and step-grandson, Joseph Logan Higgins. Pallbearers will be Greg Crabtree, Blaine Higgins, Mauldin Crabtree, Malcolm Crabtree, Lanny Dunivan and Mac McAdams.
