Daniel Joseph Runde, 71, died Sunday, May 30, 2021 at his residence in Columbia. Private family entombment services will be held at Maury Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a Solider’s Child Foundation 1197 Hazelwood Drive Smyrna, Tennessee 37167. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 11, 1949 in St. Charles, Missouri, he was the son of the late Glennon Runde and the late Arlene Orf Runde. On February 9, 1970, he joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam, where he earned a Bronze Star Medal, before being honorably discharged January 4, 1972. Mr. Runde earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1974 from the University of Missouri and in 1977 a J.D. from the University of Arkansas. In 1986, Mr. Runde moved to Columbia, and served as Public Defender for 10 years in the area, and retired after more than 20 years as assistant District Attorney. Dan was an avid fisherman and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Survivors include his wife, whom he married October 6, 1984, Frances Delores Yates Runde of Columbia; children, Debbie Lawrence of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Brian (Lauren) Wall of Murfreesboro; Elizabeth (Jeff) Minyard of Columbia; sisters, Barbara (Mark) Reading, Patricia Stewart, Kathy (Earl) Schillinger; brother, David Runde; and grandchildren, Sarah (Franky) Campos, Cole Lawrence, Penelope Wall, Abigail Minyard, Adalyn Minyard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Runde. Active pallbearers will be his loved ones.
