View Funeral Webcast Daphine Herston Caruthers, 90, resident of Trotwood Avenue, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at NHC Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. David Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Riverside United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund, P.O. A native of Lauderdale County, Alabama she was the 13th of 14 children of the late David Jackson Herston and Ella Mitchell Herston. She was married for 69 years to Arthur Eugene "Gene" Caruthers who preceded her in death February 20, 2011. Mrs. Caruthers was retired from General Electric. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 Auxiliary, and VFW Auxiliary. She was a long-time, fatithful member of Riverside United Methodist Church and Fellowship Sunday School Class. Survivors include her daughters, Janice Faye Caruthers Hight of Columbia, Edna Marie (Emmett) Caruthers Webb of Brentwood; son, Michael E. (Claudia) Caruthers of Millington; sister, Irene Herston Sneed of Columbia; grandchildren, Kim Nace, Karen McTigrit, Christopher Hight, Kevin Hight, Michael Caruthers, Jr., Sally Caruthers, Natalie Henley, Stephanie Smith and Ashley Webb; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers include Michael Caruthers, Jr., Christopher Hight, Kevin Hight, Tommy Henley, Lee Smith, Harry Nace, Ronnie Sneed and Olumide Aderoba. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Fellowship Class of Riverside United Methodist Church andstaff at Poplar Estates.
