View Funeral Webcast David Fletcher Kirk, 82, retired teacher, coach, and resident of Columbia, died Friday, September 30, 2022 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at West 7th Street Church of Christ with John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Worley Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M and Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church. The family suggests memorials to West 7th Street Church of Christ Building Fund, 405 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN 38401. Funeral services will be live streamed at W7church.org or West 7th Street church of Christ Facebook page. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born January 6, 1940 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Hugh C Kirk and the late Edna Fletcher Kirk. David was a 1958 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He graduated from Harding University, where he met Linda. On August 5, 1962, he married Linda Lee McMahan Kirk and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He earned his Master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1966. David taught Math, Biology, and coached Football as well other sports. He taught in Titusville, Florida, at Whitthorne, The Children’s Home, Nashville Christian, and Columbia Academy. He was a member of West 7th Street Church of Christ, where he was a Deacon and had taught Bible Class. During the summers, he did construction work and after his retirement from teaching, he worked part-time for Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home for several years. In addition to his wife Linda of Columbia; survivors include his children, Jimmy (Noelle) Kirk of Spring Hill; Rebecca Anne (Paul) Buchanan of Nashville; Laurie Lee (Joey) Pewitt of Columbia; grandchildren, David Allen Kirk, Tyler Emery, Reagen Emery, Ember Parr, Baylie Pewitt, Jacob Pewitt; great grandchild, Aiden Parr; brother in law, Ed Ritchie; sister in law, Sheila Cullom; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Kirk; and sister, Anne Ritchie. Active pallbearers will be David Allen Kirk, Jimmy Kirk, Paul Buchanan, Joey Pewitt, Jacob Pewitt, and Ronnie Ritchie. Honorary pallbearers include Elders and Deacons of West 7th Street Church of Christ and the coffee group (Bored Meeting).
