Mr. Charles David Massey, 67, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, who always made sure his family knew how much he loved them, died Monday, December 6, 2021 at Morning Pointe of Columbia after a brave battle with dementia. Funeral services for Mr. Massey will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Russ Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The family suggests memorials be made to Nashville Rescue Mission 639 Lafayette Street Nashville, Tennessee 37203. Born on February 26, 1954, he was the son of the late Murrell Massey and the late Beatrice Williams Massey. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1972. Always a hard worker, he retired from Columbia Gulf Transmission after 18 years. Prior to that he worked for several years at Monsanto Chemical Company, Oxy Chemical, and Clopay in Nashville. He was a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge 31. David was an avid Tennessee football fan, loved music and going to concerts. He attended Maury Hills Church. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Fann Massey of Columbia, whom he married on April 9, 1977; daughters, McKinsey Massey (Michael) Conkwright and Lauren Marie (Ben) Cook both of Nashville; grandchildren, Madilyn Conkwright, Mary Catherine Conkwright and Charlie Cook; sister, Peggy (E.R.) Calloway of Arlington, Washington; mother-in-law, Margie Fann of Columbia; sister-in-laws, Janice Fann and Vicki (Jerome) Brumfield both of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Massey Anderson and sister-in-law, Barbara Thompson. Pallbearers will be Jeff Estes, Jerome Brumfield, Britton Brumfield, Jim Poling, Wilbur Davis, Jody Shaw, Chuck Lannom and Ricky Damron. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicky Savage, past and present employees of Columbia Gulf Transmission and past employees of Monsanto Chemical Company. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Paul Perryman, Jeanette Mayberry and the staff of Morning Pointe for their care.
