View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Mr. DeWayne Carl Dougherty, 70, a resident of Hampshire and husband of Elaine Cooper Rash Dougherty, died Friday, September 10, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehab. A memorial service for Mr. Dougherty will be conducted Saturday, October 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Elmer Cooper officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate. Born January 9, 1951 in Lansing, Michigan, he was the son of the late Carl Rexford Dougherty and his wife, Lila and the late Patricia Florence Woodman Brooks and her husband, Jack. Mr. Dougherty graduated from Holt High School in 1970. He was a wrestler, football and track athlete, excelling in all. He entered the United States Army in 1970 and became a combat engineer and paratrooper serving during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged in 1973. On October 11, 1974 he married Barbara Spedoske Dougherty who preceded him in death on January 24, 2013. He married Elaine Cooper Rash Dougherty on June 1, 2013. Mr. Dougherty worked for GM for 21 years where he worked as an OP Tech. For over 12 years he was a trucker for Kuperis Trucking and for a few years was a welder for Douglas Steel. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Friendship Club. Mr. Dougherty was of the Christian faith. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters; Jennifer Marie Dougherty of Hohenwald, Deborah Ann (John) Abel of Martin, and Kathy Irene (Buddy) McKennon of Summertown; grandchildren, McKenzie McKennon, Kallianne McKennon, Jackson Abel and Peyton Abel; nephews, Brian French and Eric Hopco; great-nephew, Brody Cooper. In addition to this parents, step-parents and first wife, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Marcy Hedberg and Diana Dougherty. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy & Leanne Carter, Rex & Connie Johnson, members of the Ambassadors Club and his grandchildren, McKenzie McKennon, Kallianne McKennon, Jackson Abel and Peyton Abel. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Seth Karp and the entire liver transplant team at Vanderbilt Medical Center; Jessica, RN in ICU at Vanderbilt Medical Center; Cody, RN on the medical floor at Vanderbilt Medical Center; Alex, RN with transitional care at Vanderbilt Medical Center; Infusion nurses at Maury Regional Medical Center; Paracentesis nurses and doctors, staff of Mt. Pleasant Health and Rebab and Dr. Amit Choksi and staff.
