View Funeral Webcast Dewey Jackson Gray, age 76, passed from this earth to a wonderful place of rest on March 29, 2015. He is survived by Sylvia Hobbs Gray, his beloved wife of 52 years. They made their home in the Culleoka community. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 3, at 11:00 A.M. at Graymere Church of Christ with John Vaughan, Wendell Robinson, and Andrew Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 2, at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Dewey loved the Lord and was an active member of Graymere Church of Christ. Through the years he had served as a Sunday school teacher, song leader and deacon. He served as a teacher of "young worship" at Concord Road Church of Christ in Brentwood for many years. He was especially talented in working with and inspiring children and young adults. Dewey was a much loved father, grandfather and husband. He coached basketball, softball, and baseball and was a great motivator. He served as Scout Master of Troop #92 in Nashville and accompanied this troop on many trips, including one of his favorites to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The scouts loved him and continue to tell many wonderful stories about him. Dewey received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and a M.S. from the University of Tennessee in Engineering Administration. He owned and operated Gray and Associates-Engineers LLC. His professional memberships include NFPA National Fire Protection Association, SBCCI Southern Building Code Congress International, ASHEA American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers. Dewey was a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and Georgia. His expertise included instrument process and control, industrial power distribution, commercial and institutional power, pollution control, conveying systems and drive applications. In addition to his wife, Dewey is survived by two children, Greg Gray (Kim) of Hendersonville, TN., and Gwen Ragan (Todd) of Dickson, TN. and five grandchildren-Wilson Mathis Ragan, Sara Elaine Ragan, Brinly Anna Gray, Sadie Grace Gray, and Bennett Thomas Ragan. Dewey loved his family and cherished time with them. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers-Euriel Lee Gray, and Doris Eugene Gray and a sister Willie Bea Derryberry and Princess, his beloved canine companion. He was the son of the late Basil Augustus Gray and Janie Ethlene Lynn Gray. Active pallbearers will be Scotty Gray, Bobby Gray, Mark Gray, Andy Gray, Gary Gray, James Gray, Kevin Kizer, and Caleb Benefield,. Honorary pallbearers are Earl Price, Bob Gwaltney, John Hooker, John Chunn, Michael Stewart, Buddy Rogers, Ray Johnson, Charles Duval, Jim Allen and members of the Robinson-Wortman Sunday School class.
