Donald Wheeler Campbell

Mr. Donald Wheeler Campbell, 56, special education teacher, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his residence on Golf Club Lane. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Mark Proctor officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial to Highland Park Baptist Church Youth Fund, 1800 Highland Ave., Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Williamson County native was the son of the late George W. Campbell, Jr. and Evelyn Abernathy Campbell. On August 13, 1988 he married Kim England Campbell of Columbia who survives. Mr. Campbell graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1976, Columbia State Community College in 1986, Peabody at Vanderbilt in 1988 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, and received his Special Education certification from the State of Tennessee. His teaching career began in Dalton, Georgia where he taught for one year. Since 1990 he has been employed by the Maury County Board of Education where he taught at Whitthorne Middle School, Wright Elementary School, Spring Hill Middle School and Mt. Pleasant Middle School. He was a member of The Professional Educators of Tennessee. Mr. Campbell was very interested in historical Christianity, loved studying astronomy and enjoyed playing the piano and guitar as well as composing music. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. In addition to his wife of twenty-six years he is survived by sons, Logan Campbell and Evan Campbell both of Columbia; brother, Robert "Bob" Campbell of Santa Fe; sister-in-law, Stacy Ann Campbell of Columbia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glynn and Peggie Wallace England of Columbia; and nieces and nephews, Genna Taylor, Christie Campbell, Dave Campbell, Jake Randall and Adam Campbell. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George W. Campbell, III, Colin Campbell and his identical twin David Murphy Campbell on June 2, 2014. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Elliott, Bob Campbell, Dave Campbell, David Grech, Pat Campbell and Wayne Bone. Honorary pallbearers include the staff of Mt. Pleasant Middle School and all his students.
