Donald Ray Hemphill

Mr. Donald Ray "Don" Hemphill, 68, died at his residence on Bailey Street on Monday, January 26, 2015. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Parkway Baptist Church with Brother Mike Roberts officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church. A private burial will take place at Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, Alabama at a later date. The family suggests memorials to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 23 East 26th Street, New York, NY, 10010. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late John Harlan Hemphill and Daisy Mae Tillery Hemphill. He attended Maury County schools and was known for his love of baseball. Don played Little League and Babe Ruth baseball which led to umpiring Little League games and youth teams around Maury County. He attended First Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include a sister, Edith (Jerry) Woodard of Pulaski; brother, Bobby (Sissy) Hemphill of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Beverly Norman, Tommy Hemphill, Judy Fite, Lisa Marie Pickett, Michael Woodard; and several great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Hemphill and a brother, Buford Harold Hemphill.
