Donald Winn Smith, 67, retired U. S. Air Force Captain, teacher, and resident of Napier Drive, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Rosewood Manor. Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville with Wendell Robinson officiating. Military honors at graveside will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Williamson County native was the son of the late Alfred Winn Smith and Lillian Marie Burrow Smith. He was a graduate of Memphis State University and earned a Master's Degree in History. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1964-1968 during the Viet Nam War. He was stationed in Chicksands Air Force Base in England as an Intelligence Officer and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1977. Following military service, he taught at Mount Berry Academy in Georgia and in the Palestine, Arkansas public school system. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Lynn Allison Parker Smith of Columbia and a daughter, U. S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Allison Marie (Jason) Lesch, stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas.
