Mrs. Doris Shouse Harris, 87, resident of Columbia and retired from Publix Shirt Factory, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at NHC-Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Steven Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Clardon Shouse and Ollie McKee Shouse. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling and was a long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene. On January 10, 1945, she married Robert T. Harris. Their 46 year marriage ended with his death on March 20, 1991. Survivors include her daughter, Ann Harris of Columbia; sons, Larry Harris and Wayne (Jeanne) Harris both of Columbia; brother, Ray (Maggie) Shouse of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Sarah Shouse of Columbia, and Leola Buford Beard of Spring Hill; grandchildren, Jim (Kelli) Harris of Jackson, Mississippi, and Blake Harris of Columbia; great-grandchildren, Karmen Harris, Brock Harris, and Tenley Harris all of Jackson, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Aline Hill; brothers Herbie Shouse, Elmer Shouse, Glen Shouse, and Junior Shouse. The family wishes to express appreciation to all the nurses and techs at NHC-Hillview for their care and concern during her illness.
