View Funeral WebcastDoris Elaine Pigg Priest, 88, former longtime cashier at Dodson's Grocery, died Monday, April 6, 2015 at her residence on Santa Fe Pike. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born July 7, 1926 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Hershel Farris Pigg and Johnnie Mai Vestal Pigg. On December 22, 1945, she married the love of her life John Thomas "J. T." Priest. They had been married almost sixty-two years until his death September 25, 2007. Mrs. Priest was a 1945 graduate of Santa Fe School where she was a member of the basketball team. In her younger days, she was a waitress at Village Restaurant prior to working at Dodson's Grocery. Always wearing a smile, Doris had a great sense of humor and always thought life was a party and everyone was invited. She enjoyed people; this was noted by her love of going places everyday with her sister-in-law and friend, Mattie Beth Pigg. A longtime faithful member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, she adored her minister Terry Peery and considered him a part of her family. She took great pride in being the oldest member, both in age and sharing membership tenure with her sister-in-law Deamie Priest. Survivors include her sons, Steven Thomas (Julia) Priest of Columbia; Roger Dennis (Mary) Priest of Laguna Vista, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Edward and Gail Rountree Pigg of Santa Fe; sisters-in-law, Mattie Beth Hogan Pigg and Deamie White Priest, both of Columbia; Flora Lee Priest Jones of Madison; grandchildren, Michael Todd Priest, Roger Dennis (Erin) Priest, Jr., Matthew Scott (Kelly) Priest, Anna Patricia Priest (Ben) Saylor; great grandchildren, Garrett Thomas Priest, Audrey Mae Priest, Etta June Priest; nephews, Dan Pigg, Eddie Priest, David Priest, Rickey Allen Jones; and niece, Delores Bloodworth. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Farris Pigg; brothers-in-law, Virgil Priest and Jesse Jones; and nephew, Michael Jones. Pallbearers will be Matthew Priest, Michael Priest, Roger Priest, Jr., Ben Saylor, Dan Pigg, Eddie Priest, David Priest, and Rickey Jones. Honorary pallbearers include members of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church, friends from McDonalds, and The Telephone Pioneers.
