View Video TributeView Funeral Webcast Dorothy Anderson "Dot" Bone, 94, loving wife, mother, and doting grandmother, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at her residence on Jewell Drive. Affectionately known as "Mama Bone" and "Mama Dot," she left a lasting impression on her family, her church, and her community. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Vasser officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols and Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Larkin Anderson and Dovie Proctor Anderson. She was married January 26, 1940 to Lester Harper Bone, well-known CPA and partner in the accounting firm of Bone & Hundley. Their fifty year marriage ended with his death October 15, 1990. After they moved to Columbia from Nashville to make their home, Mrs. Bone became involved in numerous church and civic efforts and many activities involving her children. She was a gracious and welcoming hostess in her home and great supporter of her husband in his business and civic affairs. She was a former member of First Baptist Church and charter member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. She taught the Ruth Ladies Sunday School Class and was founder of the Seniors' group, "Young at Heart." Mrs. Bone was a member of the former Highland Park Demonstration Club and served as president. She also was a long-time volunteer with Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She is survived by her loving children, Sharon (Bob) Wills of Woodland, Georgia, Warren (Debbie) Bone of Pegram, Charlotte Alderson of Columbia; Wayne (Melinda) Bone of Columbia, and Judy (Woody) Pettigrew of Madison, Alabama; siblings, Margaret Forshee of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Pete (Bobbie) Anderson of Savannah; grandchildren, Bethany (Tracy) Harbin, Hal (Millie) Landers, Nathan (Hannah) Alderson, Bailey Alderson, Brittany (Scott) Oliver, Matthew (Rachel) Bone, Emily Bone, Talton (Sarah) Pettigrew, and Lester Pettigrew; great-grandchildren, Raegan Harbin, Allyson Harbin, Liza Harbin, Ansley Harbin, Maggy Lynn Landers, Farrar Landers, Liam Pettigrew, and Kadyn Pettigrew. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Bone Landers Edwards and a brother, Tom Anderson. Active pallbearers are Hal Landers, Talton Pettigrew, Lester Pettigrew, Nathan Alderson, Matthew Bone, and Mark Hines. Honorary pallbearers include Louis Eubank, Bobby Chance, Charles Tisher, members of the Ruth Sunday School Class and former members of the Lydia Sunday School Class. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Mom's faithful caregivers for their kindness and care during her illness.
