Dorothy Christine "Dot" Curry Grimmitt

Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 24th, 2022 at Maury Regional Hospital, after a short illness. Dorothy Christine Curry Grimmitt "Dot" was the second child born to Fred Biffle and Flora Aline Cothran Curry. She was born on November 2, 1941 in the Hampshire community and lived there for the majority of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Gene "Bobby" Curry and a special niece, Brenda Curry Marshall. She is survived by her husband Everett Grimmitt, and a brother James Wayne "Jimmy" (Olivia) Curry, son Tim (Debbie) Flowers, a daughter Pam (Perdue) Flowers, and two grandchildren Katie Flowers and Scott Rummage. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends. Dot was a faithful member of Cathey’s Creek Church of Christ and was previously a member of Cedar Hill Church of Christ where her grandfather was one of the first elders. She was a long time Sunday school teacher and was also a retired Maury County teacher and a Leadership Maury graduate. Dot was a beloved teacher who is still remembered by many of her students. She was employed in the Central Office of the Maury County Board of Education for 15 years and served as office manager. She was a graduate of Hampshire School and was valedictorian of the class 1960. She was also a graduate of Columbia State Community College and MTSU. Dot was awarded the first scholarship from the Retired Teachers Association in 1988. She was a longtime member of the MRMC Auxilary and served as president for two years. Her hobbies were reading, camping, knitting, working in her flowers, and her volunteer work. She also enjoyed traveling. She and her husband Everett had traveled all 50 states; many of them in their motorhome. Dot was a beautiful, caring, Christian lady who was special to her family and friends. She was dearly loved and will be missed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols. The Funeral will be held Thursday at 10:30 at the funeral home. Oakes & Nichols is assisting the family. The service will be conducted by Hueston Marshall and Stephen Kelley. As per her wishes, she will be buried beside her grandparents, William Newt and Fannie Kennedy Curry at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Curry, Todd Curry, Justin Curry, Michael Curry Jackie Curry, Robby Curry, Drew Grimmitt, Seth Grimmitt, and Errette Delk, Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of DOU campers club, MRMC Auxilary, graduates of Hampshire School class of 1960, Olivia Whiteside, Diane Runions, and Dr. Ben Gardener. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff on the third floor at Maury Regional Medical Center.
