Dr. Fred Hudson Dunnebacke, 88, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Jackson, Tennessee where he made his home in recent years. The family will visit with friends Sunday, May 15 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church followed by graveside services in Zion Churchyard with Rev. Arch Warren officiating. Military honors at graveside will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born September 27, 1922 in Davidson County, he was the son of the late Fredrick Charles Dunnebacke and Thelma Hudson Dunnebacke. Dr. Dunnebacke graduated from David Lipscomb College and the Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the U. S. Army Dental Corps from 1945 - 1948. Following military service, Dr. Dunnebacke established his dental practice in Mt. Pleasant where he practiced for 44 years until his retirement in 1989. During his years in practice he was a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, and the Sixth District Dental Society. Active in civic and community affairs, he served several years as a member of the Maury County Board of Education, was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club, and a volunteer with the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. He was a member and formerly served as an Elder and Deacon of Zion Presbyterian Church. Dr. Dunnebacke was an avid canvas artist and skilled wood carver. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Billie Bird Dunnebacke of Jackson; daughter, Kathy Dunnebacke (Dr. Pitts) Hinson of Franklin; son, Dr. Robert Hudson (Becky) Dunnebacke of Jackson; sister, Thelma Dunnebacke (Jon) Dixon of Berkley, California. Grandchildren include Haley Hinson (Len) McKnatt, Amy Hinson (Alex) Gregg, Angela Dunnebacke (Chad) Hutchens, and Joseph Brian (Emily) Dunnebacke. Great grandchildren include David Mason McKnatt, Lauren Maclaine McKnatt, Madelyn Hinsley Gregg, Matthew Hudson Gregg, Madison Elizabeth Hutchens, Katelyn Grace Hutchens, and Zachary Chad Hutchens. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sue Morrison Dunnebacke of Columbia; a niece, Ellen Dunnebacke (Jeff) McCaleb of Hartselle, Alabama and nephew, William Stuart (Dianne) Dunnebacke of Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Charles Dunnebacke. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.
