View Prayer Service WebcastDr. Lloyd George Perez, M.D., 98, retired family practitioner and resident of Baton Rogue, Louisiana, died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at NHC Hillview. The family will visit with friends Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols concluding with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. with St. Catherine Catholic Church Lay Ministers officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rogue. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rogue with visiting one hour prior to the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rogue. Memorials may be made to St. Catherine Catholic Church Outreach Ministry, 3019 Cayce Lane, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Born in New Orleans, he was the son of the late Albert Perez and Frances A. Wanner Perez. Following high school graduation in June 1927, he entered Loyola University and earned a degree from the School of Pharmacy in 1930 and was a member of Beta Phi Sigma Honor Fraternity. He worked for a period as a pharmacist/manager for Katz & Besthoff Drug Store in New Orleans and as a sales representative for Parke Davis & Company from 1937 to 1943. In 1939, he was a charter member and served as secretary of the Baton Rogue Optimist Club until he entered military service. At the outset of World War II, he helped organize the USO in Baton Rogue and served as divisional co-captain for the Fund Drive. From 1944 - 1947, during and at the conclusion of World War II, he served in the medical services division of the U. S. Army stationed at U. S. Marine Hospital. During the Korean War he served from 1954 - 1956 as assistant to the Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center and held the rank of Major upon discharge. He was a member of the American Legion. Following military service, he entered medical school at Louisiana State University, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree in April 1947. He entered private practice in Baton Rogue and served the community as a family practitioner until his retirement in 2000. During his over fifty years of practice he served on the Executive Committee, and as Chief of Staff and Medical Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Extended Care Unit of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, and as a member of the Medical Staff and Advisory Board from 1960 - 1967. Additionally, he was a member of the Medical Staff of Baton Rogue General Hospital and Woman's Hospital, remaining an honorary member of both staffs until his death. During his years of private practice, he also served as physician and consultant for many industrial companies. Active in religious, civic, and community affairs, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church which he served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector/Commentator for many years. He attained the 3rd degree in the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Faithful Navigator and was honored as Knight of The Year at the 1st awards banquet of the Metropolitan Chapter. He was a charter member of the Baton Rogue Caravan 135 of Alhambra International and served as Grand Commander and Deputy Regional Director. Dr. Perez was honored with the Papal Honor, Knight Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He was a member of the Serra Club of Baton Rogue, Holy Name Society since 1928, served as co-captain of Manresa House of Retreats; was a charter member, treasurer, board and executive committee member of Guaranty Federal Savings & Loan Association; consultant for Atlanta National Life Insurance Company; past president of Catholic Physicians Guild,; and member of the Louisiana State Medical Society and American Occupational Medical Association. He was married November 25, 1936 to the former Marie Sabathier. Their 54-year marriage ended at her death June 9, 1991. He is survived by a daughter, Clare Marie Perez (Price) Keller of Columbia; grandchildren, Lori (Mark) Orme of Franklin, Tennessee, Kenneth (Sandra) Keller of Los Angeles, California, Sharon (Rick) Lyerly of Birmingham, Alabama, and Carl (Jeanne) Keller of Atlanta, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh (Hutch) Garmany, Jason Orme, Danielle Keller, Eric Lyerly, Michael Orme, Christian Lyerly, and Luke Keller; great-great-grandsons, Hutchinson Garmany and Winters Garmany. He was preceded in death by a sister, Albert W. Perez and sister, Helen Perez Eastin.
