Mr. Eduardo "Eddie" Diaz, 66, retired chemical tech with Cytec, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his home on S. High St. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered online at www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Fajaldo, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Anthony Diaz and Josephine Mendez. Eddie grew up in the Bronx in New York City and served in the U.S. Army. He had also been employed at Union Carbide and Inter-City Products. He was a former member of the Columbia Jaycees and loved woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Gail "Teri" Diaz of Columbia; son, Josh (Dawn) Diaz of Columbia; daughters, Amanda Smotherman of Columbia, Shannon Vetetoe of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren; sisters, Lucy, Fidela, Marta, Petra and Frances; and brothers, Angel, Mike, David and Carlos. He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Diaz. Pallbearers include Ricky Howell, Shane Williamson, Chas Butler, Dustin Shakespere and Joshua Fawson.
