Edith Marie Dawson Burgess

Edith Marie Dawson Burgess, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Maury Regional Medical Center. She was a resident of Columbia, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends Friday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Edith was born to the late Sherman Dawson and Alta Vick Dawson. She was united in marriage to Terry Lee Burgess on June 6, 1986, and they shared many cherished years together.

Edith retired from Tuscaro in Mount Pleasant, where she was involved in plant operations. She was a faithful and devoted member of Southgate Church of Christ, where she was dearly loved by her church family.

Edith had a love for reading and working crossword puzzles. She was known at church as the “Card Lady” because of her diligence in sending cards to church members for birthdays, anniversaries, illnesses, and other special occasions. Her thoughtful cards were a simple but meaningful way she showed others how much she cared. Edith loved her church family, and they loved her dearly.

In addition to her husband, Terry Lee Burgess, she is survived by her sisters, Alma (Harold) Staggs and Peggy (Clyde) Campbell; her brother, Randy (Judy) Dawson; several nephews and one niece; and many dear church friends who will cherish her memory.

Edith’s kindness, thoughtfulness, and love for others will long be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
