View Video TributeElizabeth Jane Ellis Gilbert, 100, retired school teacher and resident of Richmond Dr., died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Sterling House of Columbia. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joe Evans and Rev. Jennie Barber officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements. A native of New Hampton, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late LuVerne Kenyon Ellis and Beatrice Thompson Ellis. Elizabeth received her Bachelors degree in education from Southwest Missouri State University and her Masters degree from the University of Washington. She was a school teacher for over thirty-five years. During her sixty-seven years of marriage to Charlie they lived in Herculaneum, Missouri, Seattle, Washington, Bloomington, Minnesota and finally here in Columbia for the past twenty-seven years to be close to their family. Both she and Charlie enjoyed their many hours of volunteer work for the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She achieved the Super Star volunteer designation as she served in many capacities including Chairman of Radiology. Her hobbies included gardening and playing bridge, but her family was always her main retirement occupation. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, Richard Lee (Judy) Gilbert of Columbia; grandchildren, Lynn K. Brown of Knoxville, Karen L. Gilbert of Savage, Minnesota, Logan (Amy) Gilbert of Columbia; great-grandchildren, M. Alexander Brown, Jacob E. Brown, Taylor L. Brown, Jolie L. Hjulberg and Lucas M. Gilbert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward "Charlie" Gilbert on December 27, 2008; a sister, Margaret Ann Crowe; and brother, George Ellis.The family suggests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 801 S.
